Actress Elizabeth Banks announced Wednesday that she and husband Max Handelman have welcomed their second baby boy, thanks to a surrogate.
Banks shared the happy news on her website, revealing that the boy’s name is Magnus Mitchell Handelman.
She wrote that, while there have been several historic moments lately that gave them reasons to celebrate, “nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second baby boy.”
Banks noted that, like their first son Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. “This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime,” the Hunger Games actress explained. “I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible.”
Banks concluded her post by writing, “I now turn my attention to managing two boys under two. For which I am thankful. And all their poop. For which I am less thankful.”
According to Hollywood Life, Banks and Handelman, a producer and writer, married in 2003. Felix was born in March 2011.
Banks recently completed the all-star comedy Movie 43, which opens in January. She will also be appearing in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will be released on Nov. 22, 2013. She also recently appeared on 30 Rock.
