Sheldon Stephens, the man who accused Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash of having sex with him while he was a minor, reportedly wants to undo the $125,000 settlement he reached when he recanted the story.
The story started last Monday when TMZ reported that Clash had taken a leave of absence from Sesame Street, but denied Stephens’ allegations. By Tuesday, Stephens recanted his story and his identity was later revealed by The Smoking Gun.
Over the weekend, TMZ reported that Clash paid Stephens $125,000 to recant the story. The site reported that Stephens was reluctant to sign the settlement, but did and agreed to issue a statement that their relationship was consensual and only started after he became an adult.
"Stephens agrees that immediately upon execution of this Agreement, his counsel, Andreozzi & Associates, P.C., shall release the [following] statement ... 'He [Stephens] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship,'" the agreement reportedly states.
However, TMZ is reporting Monday morning that Stephens says he was pressured into signing the deal and that he’s already contacted Los Angeles lawyers about it. Stephens believes that he is telling the truth and that their relationship started when he was 16.
Clash’s lawyers never commented on the settlement.
