Evidence lacking in Ariel Winter abuse case

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Detectives continue to investigate claims that Modern Family actress Ariel Winters suffered physical and emotional abuse by her mother, Crystal Workman. However, so far officials have not found any “documentable crimes” in their investigation.

LA Times reports that detectives have not found anything to support the 14-year-old actress' claims that she slapped her and belittled her by making herself conscious of her physical appearance including her weight, hair and face.

Ariel is currently under the guardianship of her sister, Shanelle, who also claims that her mother abused her when she was younger.

Workman, on the other hand, maintains that she never abused her daughter, reportedly telling People, “I have my doctor's letter that my daughter's never been abused. … I have stylists' letters that she's never been abused."

According to previous reports, the cast and crew of Modern Family did not care for Workman on the set, saying that Workman would constantly talk down to her daughter and make her feel badly about her clothes and weight and deprive her of eating fatty foods such as grilled cheese.

Workman later claimed that her daughter was retaliating on her after she tried to break her and her 18-year old boyfriend up after she claims to have witnessed them in the guest room bed. Her mother maintains she was saving her from statuatory rape.

Ariel and her boyfriend have since broken up.

The investigation will continue and Ariel and Workman are expected back in court November 20.
