Guy Fieri responds to NY Times critic Pete Wells' scathing review on his Times Square restaurant: He had 'another agenda'

Guy Fieri is now firing back at the New York Times reviewer who slammed his new Times Square restaurant Guy's American Kitchen and Bar.

Fieri, host of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and a regular on the Food Network, appeared on the Today show to respond to critic Pete Wells’ scathing review.

Wells asked, "Guy Fieri, have you eaten at your new restaurant in Times Square?" and continued to slam the restaurant, writing “Why is one of the few things on your menu that can be eaten without fear or regret — a lunch-only sandwich of chopped soy-glazed pork with coleslaw and cucumbers — called a Roasted Pork Bahn Mi, when it resembles that item about as much as you resemble Emily Dickinson?”

But Fieri told Savannah Guthrie he thinks Wells might have had “another agenda,” USA Today reports.

"I thought it was ridiculous. I mean, I've read reviews —- there's good and there's bad in the restaurant business, but that to me went so overboard, it really seemed like there was another agenda,” he told Guthrie.

“The tone, the sarcasm, the question style,” he continued.

He added “To me, it's impossible to come in and have a dining experience and have every single thing is wrong, unless you come in with a different agenda and you want to sensationalize something and you want to blow it out of the water. It's a great way to make a name for yourself — go after a celebrity chef that's not a New Yorker that's doing big concept in his second month. Great way to hit it," he said, punching his hand.”

One thing he also made clear is "I stand by my food. I stand by my team,” saying “Is it perfect right now? No. ... Let's see where we are in six months."
