It looks like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart won’t be the only stars of the original X-Men films returning in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine in the X-Men trilogy, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the upcoming The Wolverine, is negotiating to join the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
The Les Miserables actor’s rep confirmed the news to E! News.
Jackman also had an uncredited appearance as Wolverine in First Class. He is currently completing work on The Wolverine, which is set for a July 26, 2013 release. That film is being directed by James Mangold.
The news that Jackman may join Days of Future Past comes just days after director Bryan Singer confirmed that McKellen and Stewart, who played Magneto and Professor Xavier in the first three films, will also return.
“Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 &@SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN#DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come...” the director tweeted.
Singer hasn’t tweeted about Jackman joining, since he’s still gushing about having seen The Hobbit in New Zealand.
Jackman can be seen in Les Miserables, which opens on Christmas Day. He also appears in the all-star comedy Movie 43.
