The iconic dress seen on actress Judy Garland in the original Wizard of Oz sold at auction over the weekend for nearly $500,000.
The auction sold other high-profile items and Hollywood memorabilia, and was put on by Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills.
According to Zap2it, the buyer’s name hasn’t been disclosed, but they paid $480,000 for the dress. The reason it’s such a sought after item is that it’s the only original skirt and blouse combination from the movie that still exists.
Other high ticket items sold at the auction were a dress Marilyn Monroe wore in the film River of No Return, which went for $50,000, and actress Julie Andrew’s dress from The Sound of Music that went for $38,400.
CNN reports that the dress worn by Garland wasn’t the only expensive item sold from Wizard of Oz at the auction.
Someone paid $33,750 for publicity and studio images that belonged to MGM.
As we previously reported, Leonardo DiCaprio and other “angel donors” bought the iconic red ruby slippers Garland wore in the film, placing them in the hands of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
