Coldplay and Jay-Z will take the stage at the Barclays Center for a New Year’s Eve celebration.

Marking the first time the Chris Martin-fronted band will return to a New York stage since 2005, and this will be the second time good friends Martin and Jay-Z will perform on New Year’s Eve – they also did a show to ring in 2010 in Las Vegas.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, their most recent performance together was at the closing of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

“I love his music, and he's a super cool guy, and he's genuine. I respect his decisions, and we have the same feelings about trying to be true in your art. It just happens that one of us is a nerd and the other is the coolest multi-entrepreneur on the planet,” Martin has told Pitchfork about Jay-Z.

He also said "We're from very different backgrounds. But we love the same stuff everyone else loves.”

The musicians’ wives, Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce, are also very good friends.

Entertainmentwise reports that Jay-Z did eight sold out shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, home to the Brooklyn Nets, in October. Beyonce joined him a few times for some surprise collaborations.
