Stephanie Bongiovi, the daughter of music star Jon Bon Jovi, was arrested in New York Wednesday for drug possession following a suspected heroin overdose.
Reuters reported that Bongiovi, 19, was found in a dormitory at Hamilton College from what police believe to be an overdose. She was taken to a nearby medical facility.
Police found heroin and marijuana in the room. This led to her arrest on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession and use of drug paraphernalia.
Ian S. Grant, 21, who was in the same room, was also charged with possession. Both Bongiovi and Grant have since been released, although they are required to appear in court at a later date.
Spokespeople for Bongiovi’s famous father have not commented on the matter.
However, WKTV reported that Hamilton College released the following statement.
"In addition to violating state law, the actions alleged to have been committed by the students violate Hamilton College policy. The college is cooperating with the police investigation. Our first concern is always for the safety of our students. Out of respect for the privacy of our students and in accordance with federal regulations we do not discuss individual health or disciplinary matters."
