Two more actors have joined S.H.I.E.L.D., the first Marvel Studios television project to be developed by Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker have joined the cast to play two agents for S.H.I.E.L.D., which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate.
Henstridge will star as Agent Gemma Simmons, a science wiz. She previously appeared in Hollyoaks and a pilot for the CW called Shelter.
De Caestecker’s Agent Leo Fitz will be technology buff. The actor has starred in the BBC shows Young James Herriot and The Fades.
THR notes that the two characters will spend most of their time bickering with each other during the series.
The actors join Clark Gregg, who joined the project last month. Gregg signed on to reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson, who he played in The Avengers. Ming-Na has been picked to play Agent Melinda May.
ABC gave the project the greenlight in August. Whedon will co-write Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. ABC Studios is producing.
It has not been confirmed if Whedon will direct the pilot. He will be directing The Avengers 2, which will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
