The 2012 Latin Grammy Awards were broadcast on Univision Thursday, live from Las Vegas. The night’s big winners included Juanes, who took home Album of the Year, and Jesse & Joy, who won Record of the Year for “¡Corre!”
Jesse & Joy’s wins cemented the brother duo’s rise to fame from their 2007 win for Best New Artist. The New York Times notes that their hit ballad “¡Corre!” also won Song of the Year. Their ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro? won Best Contemporary Pop Album and “Me Voy” won Best Music Video.
Juanes and songwriter/producer Juan Luis Guerra won several awards, as expected, reports The Los Angeles Times. The Colombian rock star’s MTV Unplugged won Album of the Year, while Guerra won Producer of the Year for the same album. The video of Juanes’ MTV performance also won the award for best long form music video. Juanes was also one of the night’s performers and now has 19 Latin Grammys in total.
Mexican group 3Ball MTY won Best New Artist.
Best Contemporary Tropical Album went to Milly Quezada’s Aquí Estoy Yo, while Molotov’s Desde Rusia Con Amor won Best Rock Album.
The broadcast was hosted by Mexican singer Lucero and Chilean American actor Cristian de la Fuente. The awards were held at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.
