The iconic blue and white dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz was sold this weekend at an auction for Hollywood memorabilia for a sum of $480,000. Auction house, Julien's House has said that the dress was the highest selling two-day auction for Hollywood memorabilia.
According to Fox News, the dress attracted bids from around the globe. The auction also sold Hollywood memorabilia from other classic films.
Steve McQueen's racing jacket sold for $50,000. A purple skirt worn by Marilyn Monroe in River of No Return also sold for $50,000. The Sound of Music dress worn by Julie Andrews was sold for $38,400.
The round sunglasses worn by Jean Reno in Leon (known as The Professional in the US) were bought for $8,320. Sunglasses donned by Johnny Depp took in $3,250.
Pieces of cake from Royal Weddings were also sold. Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding cake brought in $7,500 while Prince Charles and Princess Diana's cake sold for $1,375.
This continues a trend of selling famous memorabilia for Julien's. The BBC reported that a James Bond auction for charity sold memorabilia from the franchise. The Aston Martin DBS driven by Daniel Craig in Quantum Of Solace went for £241,250.($383,684) and the sky blue swim trunks worn by Craig in Casino Royale took in £44,450 ($70,693).
