Justin Bieber was back in his native Canada this week for his Believe tour, ending the weekend with a performance at the Canadian Football League’s Grey Cup game in Toronto. The hometown crowd’s reception probably isn’t what the Biebs hoped for, though.
Bieber performed during half-time, singing a medley of his hits, including “Boyfriend” and “Beauty and a Beat.” The moment his face appeared on the JumboTron, fans began to boo, notes The AP.
“Thank you so much Canada,” Bieber said to the crowd, unfazed by their reception. “I love you.”
The boos came days after Bieber was slammed by critics for wearing overalls and a baseball cap when he accepted a Diamond Jubilee Medal from Prime Minister Stephen Harper before his Ottawa show, reports the National Post. Bieber didn’t even have one of the buttons on his overalls buttoned.
Harper answered the critics, tweeting Saturday, “In fairness to @justinbieber, I told him I would be wearing my overalls too.”
Carly Rae Jepsen also performed at the Grey Cup and didn’t get a warm reception either. She performed “This Kiss” and “Call Me Maybe.”
Bieber performs in Montreal tonight before heading to New York for two shows at Madison Square Garden.
