Kelly Preston appeared on today’s episode of The Doctors and spoke about the health of her and husband John Travolta’s son, Jett, who died in 2009 at the age of 16.
“[Jett] was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki Syndrome,” she said on the talk show, reports People.
She explained that she and Travolta believe “that there are certain contributing factors that lead to autism and some of it is very much the chemicals in our environment and in our food.”
According to E! News, she added that she thinks Jett’s death was a result of autism, seizures and the effects of Kawasaki Syndrome. She said the condition was due to complications from her “fast and hard” labor. The antibiotics she took while breastfeeding gave her son a Candida yeast infection called thrush, which studies link to autism, she noted.
Also on the show, Preston, 50, advocated for eating organically, hoping that people will lower their intake of foods with chemicals.
Travolta and Preston are parents of Elle, 12, and Benjamin, 2.
