Kevin Clash allegedly paid Sheldon Stephens $125K to recant his story

By Sarah Burbak-Douglas,

Although it seems Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash is in the clear after being accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy, reports are surfacing saying that Clash may only be cleared because the accuser was paid off.

TMZ reports that Clash agreed to pay his accuser, now identified as Sheldon Stephens, $125,000 to recant his story.

Reports first arose last week, stating that the Sesame Street puppeteer began a sexual relationship with Stephens when he was 16 and Clash was 52. The voice of Elmo insisted that Stephens was of age when the relationship took place, and noted to People that he never hid that he was a gay man.

Sources tell TMZ that only hours before Stephens recanted his story, a deal was concocted that the model-hopeful would gain $125,000 if he agreed to recant his story saying that the relationship began AFTER he turned 18.

The settlement reads: "Stephens agrees that immediately upon execution of this Agreement, his counsel, Andreozzi & Associates, P.C., shall release the [following] statement ... 'He [Stephens] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.'"

Additionally, if Stephens asked about the relationship in the future, he must never detour away from what the settlement states.
