Kevin Clash, puppeteer famous for voicing Sesame Street’s favorite red monster Elmo, has had a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders; his accuser has recanted his story.
According to TMZ, the unidentified man who accused Clash had improper relations with him when he was a 16-year-old and Clash was 46, has recanted his story saying he WAS 18 when the sexual acts in question took place.
His lawyer released a statement saying, “[The accuser] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship. [The accuser] will have no further comment."
Clash was never denying that he had relations with the man, but insisted that the acts were when the man was of age. The 52-year-old Sesame Street Workshop artist took a leave of absence once allegations hit, noting that he was never hiding his sexuality, but that he was walking away until the allegations were cleared up.
TMZ notes that it is unclear why the accuser opted to recant his statement, but notes that lawyers have been meeting throughout the day in order to come to what is being called a six-figure settlement.
