Kevin Clash, the man who voiced the voice of Sesame Street’s Elmo for almost three decades before resigning last week as a result of accusations of sexual relations with minors, has an ex-boyfriend who is coming to his defense.
Jason Murray, 29, a teacher who dated him in 2004, came to Clash’s defense after a third accuser stepped forward to accuse him of sexual abuse.
"Kevin is not a villain," Murray told E! Online. "Yes, he had an affinity for younger men, but what successful [straight] man doesn’t have an affinity for younger women? It’s the same thing, gay or not.”
Clash was first accused of sexual abuse when a man named Sheldon Stephens, now 24, accused Clash of having sex with him when he was just 16. He later recanted the story.
The second accuser was Cecil Singleton and the third goes by John Doe.
“Does he prey on these guys? In my heart I don't believe that," said Murray. "I think it's like Hugh Hefner, he dates younger women. Kevin likes younger guys. I am reading the news and all the negative stuff. I don't see it. He had a good heart."
