The self-proclaimed Leimert Park legend Dom Kennedy chose to announce the release of his upcoming album “Get Home Safely” on California Hip-Hop radio airwaves.
Things were friendly as Dom Kennedy sat down with radio host Big Boy on the Power 106 radio station to discuss his new album, his appreciation for Michael Jackson, and how he came up with his rapper name.
Kennedy announced that his “first debut” album should be released next year in the spring or summer. Although Kennedy has several mixtapes, and one album available on iTunes, he has never released a physical album available in stores. “Get Home Safely” will be his first.
Kennedy went on to discuss how he spent his Thanksgiving. He spent the holiday with his family watching a Michael Jackson documentary. Then Big Boy jokingly advised Kennedy to adopt some of Jackson’s legendary fashion choices including the sparkly socks and single glove.
Before the interview was over, Dom Kennedy explained the origin story of his name. Apparently people around his neighborhood called him “Eazy Money,” but he didn’t really like the name for his rap career. As a result he went with a shortened version of his first name and added a Kennedy at the end.
