Lifetime’s Liz & Dick is looking like a gamble that hasn’t paid off so far. The movie, which stars Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor and is the first stop in her comeback attempt, was blasted by critics and the public. The ratings for the film were only decent, failing to become the most watched TV movie of the year.
The film drew 3.5 million viewers, which isn’t that awful for a cable movie on a Sunday night. However, it was just the fourth most-watched Lifetime movie of the year, notes Zap2It. Steel Magnolias drew a whopping 6.8 million viewers, while Drew Peterson: Untouchable had 5.8 million. Abducted: The Carlina White Story had 3.5 million viewers.
According to Deadline, It drew 1.3 million viewers in the key 18-49 demographic and another 1.3 million in the 25-54 demo.
Liz & Dick also stars Grant Bowler, who played Richard Burton. The film chronicles Taylor and Burton’s love affair.
Many of the people who watched were as impressed with Lohan as critics were, slamming her performance on Twitter. According to The Huffington Post’s sources, Lohan is “devastated” by the film’s response, since she poured so much effort into it.
“She has got used to all the negative press around her personal life but this is the first time she has experienced it about her work. No matter how bad things were going for her personally, everyone would always agree that she was a great actress,” the source explained.
Lohan’s next projects are The Canyons and a cameo in Scary Movie 5.
If you missed Liz & Dick, Lifetime will be airing it again tonight at 8pm.
