'Modern Family' star Ariel Winter's mother and brother deny abuse claims

By Gina DiFalco,

Modern Family star Ariel Winter, 14, was reportedly taken out of her home that she lives in with her mother due to allegations that her mother was physically and emotionally abusing her.

As we previously reported, Winter was placed in temporary custody of her older sister, Shanelle Workman.

Now, Winter’s brother, Jimmy Workman, is denying these claims against their mother Chrisoula "Crystal" Workman.

“There is no truth to these allegations," he told Us Weekly. "The allegations made 20 years ago are not true and the ones today are not true."

Workman is referring to the Department of Children and Family Services investigating an abuse claim on Shanelle 20 years ago, and she, herself, removed herself from the home, choosing to live in foster care instead.

“This is a mother who does everything for her kids," Jimmy also told Us. He added about their mother, "Chris misses Ariel and wants her to come home."

Chris has also denied the allegations to People, saying "It's all untrue, it's all untrue. I have my doctor's letter that my daughter's never been abused. … I have stylists' letters that she's never been abused."

Winter, however, filed court papers on Oct. 3, citing "ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor's weight, attempts to 'sexualize' minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time."
