This Week In Comics - 11/14

By Michael R. Murray,

Sometimes these weeks pass way too fast for me.   Yet here we are again and Dark Horse Comics has plenty of everything this week including Tarzan: Once and Future Tarzan one shot, $3.50, written by Alan Gordon and Tom Yeates, with art by Yeates and a cover by Yeates and Lori Almeida.  The 100th anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan Lord of the Apes drops Tarzan into the half-flooded ruins of a future London…

DC Comics only sell out is coming in the way of Suicide Squad #14, $2.99, by Adam Glass and Fernando Dagnino and features a cover by Ken Lashley.  A Death of the Family tie in, a funeral for a friend is interrupted by Hayley’s past and Amanda has found the squad’s traitor, but has she lost the war with Basilisk?...

Fables Werewolves of the Heartland hardcover, $22.99, by Bill Willingham, Craig Hamilton, and Jim Fern has Bigby Wolf take the center stage in what might be the most action packed Fables story to date.  I’ve never read Fables and have certainly heard good things about it, so I’m looking forward to this hardcover, a stand-alone story that will give me the opportunity to get in to find out what this series is all about…

IDW has a sell out in Enrique Sanchez abuli, Jordi Bernet, and Alex Toth’s Torpedo tp vol 1, $17.99.  This masterpiece is a darkly humorous exploration of the criminal underbelly in 1930s New York City…

Locke and Key Omega #1 (of 7), $3.99, by Joe Hill and Gabrielle Rodriquez, is another of my personal favorites.  Dodge has the Omega key and nothing can stop him from using it.  Here starts the last seven issues in this story and it’s been fantastic throughout, so I have high expectations for this…

Image Comics has a sell out in the Great Pacific #1, $2.99, by Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo.  Chas Worthington dreams of big things, solving bigger problems, and making his mark on the world.  Only no one takes the 21-year-old heir to one of the biggest oil fortunes in history very seriously.  That is, until he turns his back on his cushy life of wealth and prestige and seeks to solve an environmental disaster twice the size of his native Texas known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.  I don’t get it…

The other Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead) offering, Invincible #97, $2.99, with art by Ryan Ottley and Cliff Rathburn and a cover by Ottley and John Rauch sets the stage for #100…

The first collaboration between Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark with Sean Phillips on inks, even before their momentous run on Daredevil, is Scene of the Crime deluxe HC, $24.99.  Brubaker’s crime noir books have really impressed me and I don’t remember seeing this solicited, but saw it for the purpose of this article and have already placed my reorder for it…

Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen have brought back the Days of Future Past by plucking the original five X-Men out of the past and dropping them right smack dab into the present to see just how far off their dream was. All New X-Men #1, $3.99, from Marvel Comics, has the promise of great character development potential…

Marvel Now delivers even more number ones this week with Fantastic Four #1, $2.99, by Matt Fraction and Mark Bagley.  The whole family embarks on a journey through all of infinite time and space…

Thor God of Thunder #1, $3.99, by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, in which Thor hunts down the God Butcher…

Legion attempts to conquer his demons and embrace his father’s destiny with the help of Simon Spurrier, Tan Eng Huat, and Mike Del Mundo in X-Men Legacy #1, $2.99…

I’ve also been eagerly awaiting the Spider-men HC, $24.99, by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli with a cover by Jim Cheung, where the walls between universes come down and Peter Parker and Miles Morales come face to face…

My new favorite, Valiant Entertainment is shipping Archer & Armstrong #4, $3.99, by New York Times best-selling author Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry with a cover by Juan Doe.  It’s their last stand against the Sect high in the Himalayas.  Look here for the new debut of a classic Valiant character…

Bloodshot #5, $3.99, by Duane Swierczynski and Manuel Garcia with a cover by Arturo Lozzi, starts the new story arc.  Now that Bloodshot knows what he is, he’s on a hunt to find out who he is…

And plenty more that’s not listed.  For a more complete list feel free to visit your local comic store or favorite site.  If you’re interested in more of what I think, follow me on Twitter at Mycomicstore001 or like my Facebook page.

Michael R. Murray is a full time Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service who cannot go on a vacation without finding a local comic store to visit.  Not that he’s looking for anything in particular.  He just enjoys the exploration…
