New York Times held staff party at Guy Fieri’s restaurant day after scating review was published

By Daniel S Levine,

This is awkward. A day after New York Times food critic Pete Wells’ now-famous scathing review of Guy Fieri’s Times Square restaurant was published, the Times held a staff party at the restaurant.

The review was a hot topic on NBC’s Today Show Thursday morning, as Guy Fieri was interviewed live and defended his new American Kitchen & Bar restaurant. During the ‘Professionals’ segment, Today had Star Jones, Donny Deutsch, and Dr. Phil talk about the review, reports The Braiser.

“And by the way,” Dr. Phil said, “last night, they hosted — the New York Times hosted a 160-person party at that restaurant.”

While the Times later sent an email to The Braiser, stating that they could not confirm if a party was held there, the publication sent a statement to Fox News that confirmed it.

“The New York Times ad sales department hosted an event for clients last night at Guy Fieri’s restaurant. The event was planned two months ago,” Times rep Danielle Rhoades Ha wrote to Fox.

The party was held a day after the review was posted online and the day it was published in print. The review has gone viral and Fieri has responded.

“I thought it was ridiculous, that to me was so overboard,” the Food Network host told Today. He later added, “We’re trying as hard as we can to make it right, to do it right...Is it perfect right now? No. Are we striving for that? Yeah.”

Fieri hasn’t responded to the fact that the Times held a staff party there.
