Fans of iCarly and Victorious should be happy to learn that both shows will get a spin-off called Sam & Cat. The new show was picked up with a 20-episode order.
According to Deadline, Sam & Cat will unite iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy with Victorious’ Ariana Grande.
The new show will have Sam Puckett (McCurdy’s iCarly character) and Cat Valentine (Grande’s character from Victorious) as unlikely roommates who become friends. Instead of getting regular jobs, they decide to work together with their own babysitting business. The series comes from iCarly creator Dan Schneider and will premiere in January.
“Jennette and Ariana are adored by our audience, and it’s great to unite these talented actresses in this hilarious new comedy from Dan Schneider,” Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s President, Content Development and Production, said in a statement. “This show promises to deliver on what our audience loves most about these two favorite characters — laugh-out-loud humor and non-stop adventure, and is sure to be a compelling new chapter for our new comedic duo.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the news comes just after Sunday’s iCarly series finale pulled in 6.4 million viewers for Nickelodeon. The show ran for six seasons.
Victorious is ending after three years in 2013.
McCurdy recently finished Nickelodeon’s TV movie Swindle and Grande just starred on stage in A Snow White Christmas with Neil Patrick Harris.
Schneider has been a mastermind for Nickelodeon, creating Drake & Josh, The Amanda Show and Zoey 101.
