Olympian McKayla Maroney on acting role in ‘Hart of Dixie’

By Meaghan Fleming,

Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney talked to Teen Vogue about her guest appearance on the CW show Hart of Dixie, her plans to act again, and her future in gymnastics.

Maroney guest starred on Tuesday’s episode of Hart of Dixie "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me" according to Teen Vogue. She played Tonya, Rose’s (McKaley Miller) best friend in the episode.

“Zoe is going on a date with one of Rose's friends, and there's drama between Zoe and Rose,” Maroney explains. “I'm by Rose's side because I'm her best friend."

She is not the first 2012 Olympian to guest star on a TV show. Fellow gymnastics teammate Gabby Douglas, swimmer Missy Franklin, and swimmer Ryan Lochte all had guest spots on popular shows as we previously reported.

When asked if she wants to try acting again, Maroney answers "Yes, definitely.”

“I love it so much,” Maroney continues. “It's a full-time job, just like gymnastics. I'm in the gym eight hours a day, and it's same as acting when you're filming from the morning all the way to the night. It's definitely something that I want to do more of in the future."

Maroney says she wants to be on Hart of Dixie again if possible, stating that she is a big fan of the show. She also wants to guest star on Awkward or How I Met Your Mother, though she admits she is probably too young to star on the latter.

She says the 2016 Olympics “would be a dream come true,” can plans to get back to the gym and train soon.
