One Direction, Ben Affleck, ‘50 Shades’ author EL James on Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People 2012 list

The View co-host Barbara Walters announced her annual list of 10 Most Fascinating People on Monday. The list includes the celebrities, politicians and athletes who made an impact on the past year.

One Direction landed a spot on the list. The UK boy band recently released Take Me Home, which is predicted to sell 500,000 copies in its first week. Their first album, Up All Night, has sold 1.32 million copies in the US.

The group also recently announced that they will star in a 3D film that will be directed by Morgan Spurlock.

According to USA Today, the other names on the list include Ben Affleck, whose Argo is a favorite to earn Oscar nominations, and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who will host the Oscars.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are the politicians who made the list. Gabby Douglas, who won the women’s gymnastics all-around gold medal at the Olympics and 50 Shades of Grey author EL James also made the list.

Walters will interview these newsmakers during the ABC News special Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012, which airs Dec. 12 on ABC. The remaining names on the list will be revealed during the special.

MTV notes that last year’s list included Katy Perry and Simon Cowell.
