Petition to get Macy’s to fire Donald Trump reaches 500,000 signatures

By Daniel S Levine,

Over 500,000 people have signed a petition in the hope that Macy’s tells Donald Trump “You’re fired.”

In the wake of Trump’s post-election Twitter tirade, a SignOn.org petition has surfaced, titled “Urge Macy’s to Dump Donald Trump.”

The petition, which hopes to get 525,000 signatures, is already at over 503,000 signatures at the moment. It target’s Macy’s decision to sell a line of clothing and fragrances from Trump’s brand and lists several reasons why Trump should not be celebrated. Among them are charges of sexist behavior and his insistence that President Obama was not born in America.

According to Mashable, the petition surfaced after The New York Times reported that Trump will appear in an ad for Macy’s, which will begin airing this week.

The petition cites Macy’s social responsibility policy, which reads in part, “At Macy’s, Inc., we hold those same beliefs – along with a belief that actions speak louder than words when it comes to helping tackle some of the toughest problems facing us today.”

“Indeed Macy's. Actions speak louder than words. So, act and dump Trump,” the petition reads.

The petition sparked #DumpTrump tweets on Twitter and the topic was trending.

Trump was in the headlines last week thanks to his rant on Twitter after it was declared that President Obama had won re-election. Lately, he has been tweeting about the David Petraeus sex scandal, although he did just tweet about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. “After Friday’s Twilight release, I hope Robert Pattinson will not be seen in public with Kristen--she will cheat on him again!” he wrote.
