Casablanca, one of the most beloved films of all time is gearing up for a sequel based off of a script that was written over 30 years ago.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Howard Koch, who won an Oscar in screenwriting for the 1942 classic, penned a sequel three decades ago.
Harry Warner’s granddaughter Cass Warner, reportedly wants to get Koch’s ideas onto the big screen. Yes, they are the same Warners who run Warner Bros.
The sequel is apparently called Return to Casablanca.
Film Drunk says that the story sees Ilsa’s son Richard, who’s father is Rick Blaine, played by Humphrey Bogart in the original, goes to Casablanca, which is now under Arab control, looking for answers about his real father.
Naturally, the skeptics are going to have their way with this one, but Cass Warner wants to prove them wrong.
“I want generations to continue to appreciate Casablanca. I feel it’s a tool to do that,” Warner said of bringing the story to the screen.
We shall have to wait and see if this sequel ever sees the light of day.
