Starz are considering a possible Spartacus spinoff focused on Julius Caesar reportsconfirmed Wednesday.
Todd Lasance’s new character, Julius Caesar from the upcoming third and last season, entitled Spartacus: War of the Damned, may get his own show on Starz, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed this week.
Executive producer Steven DeKnight talked to the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year about a possible spinoff.
"In the halls of Starz, we often whisper about a spinoff. We've set up a world that is just perfect to spin off into other areas during this time period," DeKnight said. "We are open to, down the road, revisiting this world, whether it's Julius Caesar, whether it's set in the same time period or whether it's a little later in the time period."
The last season of the show had over 6 million viewers on average and airs in over 150 countries, according to Broadway World. The show has done well in the ratings and is well-liked by critics.
Spartacus: War of the Damned will focus (spoilers follow) on Spartacus (Liam McIntyre) and the rebel army working to destroy the Roman Republic. Simon Merrells joins the show as Marcus Crassus, and of course, Lasance joins as Julius Caesar.
Spartacus: War of the Damned premieres Friday, January 25 on Starz.
