Taylor Swift not sorry for writing songs about her ex-boyfriends

Swift: 'If we break up, I’m going to write about it'

There is no question: when Taylor Swift is heartbroken, she will write about it.

In a new interview with The New York Times, the 22-year-old “State of Grace” singer admitted that she has written songs about past relationships even though she told her exes, the subject of the songs, that she wouldn’t.

“The only time that has ever crossed someone’s mind was when we were in the process of breaking up,” she told the newspaper regarding whether her boyfriends ever ask if she’ll write about them. “Of course I was like, ‘Oh, don’t worry, I won’t. And then I did.’”

Swift, though, no matter what other people may think of her way of getting over a breakup, says it’s just something she feels she has to do.

“Look, it’s not like it was written somewhere in the fine print that I write songs about my life. If we break up, I’m going to write about it,” she added. “But I’m probably also going to write about when I fell in love with you. So there’s an upside.”

Good or bad, Swift says her ex-boyfriends and their identities will always be safe with her.

“I don’t talk about who it is specifically because these are real people," she said. "You try to give insight as to where you were coming from as a writer without completely throwing somebody under the bus.”
