Behind the scenes of children’s TV is getting scandalous for the innocent nature it projects. It was reported that Kevin Clash, the voice of Sesame Street’s Elmo, has been battling constant ridicule of accusation he was engaged in sexual relations with minors. Now resigned from the show, Tom Kenny, voice of SpongeBob Squarepants, commends Clash for stepping down.
According to TMZ, “Our photog spotted (or maybe heard?) Kenny yesterday at LAX where he told us he's never met Clash, but feels the "Sesame Street" puppeteer needed to step down.”
In response to Clash’s resignation, Sesame Workshop has stated, "Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street," according to TMZ.
A sad day it was indeed. The iconic Elmo we all know and loved is forever no more. Previously the Sesame Workshop has said, "Elmo is bigger than any one person."
