Top 10 rap songs to be thankful for this Thanksgiving

By Mallory Hatten,

Oh, Nicki, Kanye, Drake, how we love you! What would 2012 be without the hardcore beats and crazy, tongue-twisting lyrics that bring out a little gangsta’ in all of us? Whether you’re riding in the car jamming out or getting pumped up for a fun night out with friends, rap music makes you feel unstoppable and invincible. Conversely, rap also makes us feel like we can dance – even when we can’t. Nevertheless, however the genre makes you feel, we’ve compiled a list of 2012’s best rap jams. So, go on! Get jiggy with it!

10. “Wild Boy (feat. Waka Flocka Flame)” by MGK. This up-and-coming rapper – called Machine Gun Kelly – released this hardcore, thug-life track earlier in the year. Once you hit play, your body won’t be able to sit still – even if it’s just a simple head bang. Not to mention, the rapper collaborates on the song with one of rap’s best-known bad boys.

9. “Bandz a Make Her Dance (feat. Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)” by Juicy J. The lyrical content is a bit suggestive, as is every rap song, but the chorus is so catchy that you can’t help but to sing along.

8. “Take It to the Head (feat. Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne)” by DJ Khaled. Talk about the ultimate collaboration. This song features many of rap’s biggest names. Plus, the song features a nice, slower tempo to enjoy after you’ve had enough of the intense upbeat songs.

7. “No Worries” by Lil Wayne. Despite the clever lyrics, Wayne (a.k.a. Tunechi, Weezy, YMCMB, etc.) has a raspy, strained voice that some may say lacks talent, but let’s be real. The rapper knows what he’s doing. He’s has that I-don’t-put-up-with-s**t attitude, and because of that, his music has a way of making you feel like a total badass.

6. “I Need a Doctor (feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey)” by Dr. Dre. This emotional song was written for a friend of Dre who passed. Not only is it raw and real, but the video will break your heart. Unlike the majority of booze and sex-filled rap music content, this song has a sentimental, real message.

5. “Cashin’ Out” by Cashin’ Out. This song became possibly the catchiest rap song of 2012. Just listen to it. You’ll see.

4. “Work Hard, Play Hard” by Wiz Khalifa. This award-winning rapper came out of nowhere and took the music world by storm. He’s innovative, smart and has the special spark that makes him a star. This song is catchy and – with lack of a better word – fantastic.

3. “My Homies Still (feat. Big Sean)” by Lil Wayne. And here he is again – Wayne. He’s just that good. A true master of the craft, the rapper brings this song to life against an eerie, synthesized, catchy beat.

2. “No Lie (feat. Drake)” by 2 Chainz. Who knew a rap song about not lying and being truthful would be one of the biggest of the year. Regardless, this song is perfection. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

1. “Clique” by Kanye West, Jay-Z & Big Sean. This song is fantastic not only for it’s fabulous lyrics and beat, but also for it’s insight into Kanye’s relationship with Kim Kardashian. He doesn’t discuss his girl very often, but in this track he mentions her sex tape, rapping, “My girl a superstar all from a home movie.”
