Thanksgiving has just passed, but there are many other holidays around the corner! If anybody is looking to give back during these times, there are many things you could do, but here’s the top ten!
1.) According to water.org, one billion people throughout the world do not have access to clean water. Donating $25 to the organization can bring clean water to one person for the rest of he or she’s life. Every little bit counts during the holiday season.
2.) Do you like snuggling in your pajamas? How many pairs do you have? The Pajama Program has been around since 2001 and the program has given out more than a million pairs of pajamas. Donating a pair of your pajamas to the organization in a local chapter can help out many more people during the upcoming cold season.
3.) The average woman owns about 15-25 (maybe more) pairs of shoes. The Soles 4 Souls is an organization based out of Nashville, Tenn. And has shipped about six million pairs of shoes to people in need. You can bring them to a nearby warehouse and help out to people in your community.
4.) Aside from donating money or clothes of shoes, pick up the phone. Call a friend/family member or somebody you haven’t spoken to in awhile and catch up. That could be one of the best gifts either of you can get during the holidays.
5.) Are you a pet lover? Fostering a pet could be a way you could give back. There are over 4,000 shelters in the U.S. and there are many pets needing a warm home over the holidays. Fostering a pet could warm your heart and it will help out many animals in America.
6.) Keep an empty jar in your kitchen or living room and put spare change in it as you go. Every penny counts and once you fill up the jar, donate it to a good cause at the end of 2012 and start 2013 off right!
7.) Are you living in a neighborhood where there are elderly people? Helping them with their outside yard work or around their house during the holidays can really make you feel better about yourself and make them happy for the holidays that they didn’t have to do all the work.
8.) Have long hair? Donating 10 inches of your hair to Locks of Love can make a huge difference in a child’s life during the holidays.
9.) Every two years there’s an upgrade change for most cell phone companies. Donating your old cell phone can help somebody keep in contact with their family who they may have not spoken to in awhile.
10.) The Children’s Cancer Research Fund is a good way to give back during the holidays. Donating just a few dollars to the fund will help a child or two during this time of need.
That is just a top ten of what you could do to give back during the holidays. Many families are in need during this time and donating clothes, shoes, money or just plain calling somebody to catch up, are some of the ways you can give back. There are many other ways to help out during this season as well.
Happy Holidays everyone!
