Trailer Park - 11/23 Edition

This week at the box office, it's about survival; whether it be from other films, foreign invaders or a shipwreck. Young people take control of their destinies.

Residents in a Washington city wake up one morning to find North Korean paratroopers descending from the sky, invading their neighborhood in Red Dawn. A group of teenagers ban together to form a group to fight back and protect themselves, their city and gain freedom. The PG-13 action adventure film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It runs for one hour and thirty-three minutes.

Award winning director Ang Lee brings a best selling novel to the big screen with Life of Pi. In the PG film, the young son of an Indian zookeeper survives a sinking ship by escaping on a life boat. The only other survivor is a Bengal tiger who joined him on his getaway. The two bond as they navigate the Pacific Ocean and struggle to stay alive. The adventure lasts for two hour and five minutes. It's available in 2D and 3D.

When evil tries to instill fear among children, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost join forces to protect the young people of the world in Rise of the Guardians. This animated adventure showcases the special powers of the popular characters. The PG film features of the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. It's playing for one hour and thirty-seven minutes in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters.

Anthony Hopkins plays acclaimed horror director Alfred Hitchcock in the limited released film Hitchcock. The PG-13 drama shows the back story behind the hit film Psycho and the little known love affair between the filmmaker and his wife. It runs for one hour and thirty-eight minutes.

A whale trainer's life is dramatically altered when she loses her legs in an accident in Rust and Bone. Now depressed and stuck in a wheelchair, she gets a new zest for life with the help of a man she met at a bar before the accident. The drama unfolds in two hours and two minutes. The limited released film stars Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenarts and is based on the short stories of Craig Davidson. It's rated R for violence, lanugage, nudity and sex.

The documentary The Central Park Five delves deep into the 1989 high profile case surrounding five teens who were falsely convicted of raping a woman in NYC's Central Park. The one hour and fifty-nine minute film shows the corruption within the justice system and how the media jumped on board for a sensational headline. The limited released film is unrated.

Young people's fight to live was prevalent among this week's new releases. Next week, a young girl struggles to survive at the hands of a serial killer in The Collection and Brad Pitt plays an enforcer for the mob.
