TV Land renews Cedric the Entertainer’s ‘Soul Man,’ adds more ‘The Exes’ episodes

By Daniel S Levine,

TV Land made some moves on Tuesday, picking up Cedric the Entertainer’s Soul Man for a second season and adding episodes to The Exes’ second season.

Cedric took to Twitter to share the good news with his fans, writing, “Just got word #TheSoulMan has been picked up for season #2.Thank all of you who wrote in and/or just watched me @niecynash bout to Turn Up!”

The series co-stars Niecy Nash and is a spin-off of TV Land’s successful Hot In Cleveland sitcom. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series averaged 1.06 million viewers during its first, 12-episode season.

Soul Man’s premiere also drew the second-strongest premiere ratings for TV Land in the key 25-54 and women 25-54 demographics.

In the show, Cedric stars as a former R&B star-turned-reverend who has moved to St. Louis to preach at his father’s church.

Deadline also reported Tuesday that The Exes’ second season grew by 10 episodes. The series stars Donald Faison, Wayne Knight, David Alan Basche, Kelly Stables and Kristen Johnston. The first half of season two averaged 1.2 million viewers.

Last November, we interviewed Knight prior to the show’s first season premiere.
