Eager Twilight fans gathered for Friday evening’s debut of Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and raked in $71 million for the box office.

USA Today reports that the highly anticipated finale brought in $71 million. Breaking Dawn - Part 1 brought in an estimated $110 million its opening night.

The film, however, is expected to bring in over $135 million over the weekend, which will come in $3 million short of its previous film which focused on Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) getting married and the birth of their first child.

USA Today notes that the final film falls short of 2009's The Twilight Saga: New Moon which opened with $143 million. Eclipse, which premiered in 2010, raked in $68.5 million on its opening weekend and grossed $689.5 million worldwide.

This year, Breaking Dawn - Part 2 debuted Thursday at 10 o’clock in the hopes of drawing in a larger crowd. It raked in $30.4 million.
