One of the biggest box office weekends of the year does not seem to see much change in the highest grossing films as of Wednesday, despite the release of four new releases.
According to Entertainment Weekly, The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 2 made $12.8 million on Wednesday and is estimated to finish its second weekend in first again with $64 million. Similar drops were seen by other films in the franchise, New Moon and Breaking Dawn Part 1, that opened the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Box Office Mojo says that Skyfall is still sitting in second place with $7.4 million for the first day.
The two biggest wide releases of the weekend are fighting in the top five with Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. As it stands after Wednesday, Rise of the Guardians is in third with $4.8 million, Lincoln is in fourth with $4.2 million, just slightly edging out Red Dawn in fifth.
Ang Lee's Life of Pi is struggling amongst all the blockbusters as it holds its spot in seventh behind Wreck-It Ralph, one of the older films still in the top ten.
The advertisements for Silver Linings Playbook said it was getting a wide release this weekend, yet the film only expanded to 367 theaters after a limited birth last weekend. After Wednesday it is in ninth with only $656 thousand, behind Flight with $1.2 million, and ahead of Argo with $600 thousand.
The full box office results for the holiday weekend will come in Sunday or Monday.
