'The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn-Part 2' has successful box office weekend

The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn- Part 2 dominated the box office this weekend, bringing in an estimated $141.3 million from Thursday-Sunday’s showings.

According to E! News, the finale in the hit vampire series comes in second to that of New Moon, which holds the top earnings of all the films at $143 million.

Thursday’s early opening brought in $30.4 million, while on Friday’s official debut the film raked in a reported $71 million.
E! notes that the successful weekend comes just a bit over Breaking Dawn- Part 1 , and ranks among 2012’s biggest box office weekends which include The Avengers, The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight Rises.

Other films that made it big at the box office this weekend include Skyfall ($41.5), Lincoln ($21 million) and Wreck-It Ralph($18.3 million). Additionally, E! reports that box office sales were up 50 percent this weekend compared to last weekend’s lackluster results.

Twilight’s New Moon, Breaking Dawn-Part 1 and Breaking Dawn-Part 2 now sit as numbers 7,8 and 9 respectively in the Top 10 all-time opening weekends, Box Office Mojo reports.
