Universal Studios to sue porn company for copyright infringement for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' adult film

Fifty Shades of Grey took the world by storm with its erotic filled pages and intriguing characters, it seemed that everyone wanted a piece of the sex-filled novel. Now, Universal Studios is filing a lawsuit against the a porn company who attempted to get their piece of the hot selling pie.

According to Reuters, Universal Studios is filing the lawsuit after a porn production company used the language, characters and plot from E.L. James’ hit trilogy.

The copyright lawsuit was filed by both Universal, who bought the rights for a film adaptation for $5 million, and James’ British company, which still holds the copyright laws.

The adult-film company, Smash Pictures Inc. released a movie entitled Fifty Shades of Grey: a XXX Adaptation is now at the center of what could be a very expensive lawsuit.

“Defendants [had a] knowing and willful violation of Plaintiffs’ copyrights in E L James’s bestselling novels Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed (the “Fifty Shades Trilogy”) by way of the production and distribution of adult films that take wholesale the dialogue, characters, and storyline from the Fifty Shades Trilogy,” the lawsuit reads as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The company also has two films in production as well as a sex kit which is referred to as “Fifty Shades of Pleasure,” Reuters reports

According to the report, the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, the profits its received from the films and sales of the toys as well.
