‘The Vampire Diaries’ Recap: We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes

Elena almost committed suicide this week when she threw her sunlight ring into the waters of Wickery Bridge. How ironic that she would come to the very place that killed her (as a human) and her parents, but I suppose there’s no other place that Elena has more sentimental connection to. Connor haunts Elena waking hours and you know it’s serious when you find yourself stabbing your brother unknowingly in the neck. Thankfully Jeremy was wearing his protection ring or else he would have died again and there’s no Bonnie around to bring him back from the dead this time around. The hallucinations that Elena saw had a range of forms which includes Connor, Katherine, and her mother – her mother being the most persuasive.

With the help of the charming Professor Shane, the group finds out a way to stop Elena from going crazy and just in the nick of time too. The only way for the hallucinations to stop is if the new hunter makes his first vampire kill. Luckily for the group, they know who that new hunter is, so let’s hand Jeremy a weapon and a vampire right? I wish it was easy as it sounds, but who can they kill in town that’s not a friend and this is where Klaus comes into the picture.

Caroline is the true savior this week because it is she that convinces Klaus to hand over a hybrid for slaying purposes. Unfortunately, the hybrid that gets his head chopped off was Chris (a recent unsired hybrid), a friend of Hayley and Tyler. And Tyler has much more to be mad about than a fellow hybrid being killed because it’s revealed that Caroline had promised to go out on a date with Klaus in exchange for a hybrid. Anger at what happened; Tyler seems to call it quits for Caroline. As much as I love Tyler and Caroline together, I know this is the beginning of Caroline’s and Klaus’s budding relationship.

The episode concludes with Elena safely in bed at home as Damon had saved her life yet again. He apparently jumped with Elena into the water in order to save her from burning to death and he also retrieved her sunlight ring. Touched by his actions, Elena holds onto Damon’s hand. Selfless once again, he tells her the truth about Stefan’s actions of late instead of taking advantage of the situation. Elena confronts Stefan about what Damon told her and after finding out the truth about the cure and everything, she finally is honest with herself about her feelings towards Damon. Stefan and her break up and thus mark the beginning of Damon’s and Elena’s relationship in the next episode? Talk about one heck of a breakup episode. Anyone else excited about the upcoming episode?
