An exchange of emails from Kevin Clash, the voice of the Sesame Street character Elmo, reveal that he was obsessed with talking about sex with the man who is accusing Clash of having sex with him when he was just 16.
TMZ obtained emails from 2010 in which Clash writes to his accuser, “I'm sorry that I keep talking about sex with you, its driving me insane.”
Clash continues, "I want you to know that I love you and I will never hurt you. I'm here to protect you and make sure your dreams come true."
He then tells the man that he will arrange for a flight to take him to New York. “I'll have my assistant book a ticket for you to come to NY and we can talk about this in person,” Clash wrote.
As we previously reported, the scandal went public Monday, when TMZ reported that Clash took a leave of absence from Sesame Street after the accuser claimed that he and Clash had sex when he was just 16 and Clash was 45.
Clash did tell TMZ that he had a relationship with the man, but insisted that it did not start until after the man turned 18.
As for Sesame Workshop, which produces the show, they told TMZ that they had met with the man a couple of times, but he could never produce evidence to support his claims.
“Elmo is bigger than any one person and will continue to be an integral part of Sesame Street to engage, educate and inspire children around the world, as it has for 40 years,” Sesame Workshop said in a statement.
