The competition on the hit show, The Voice, is heating up. The singing competition is down the top eight vocalists. To the open the show, Adam Levine and 50 Cent took the stage. 50 Cent debuted his new song, “My Life,” featuring Adam Levine on vocals. Levine’s vocal styling compliments the harder edge of 50 Cent.
To start of the live performances, Amanda Brown took the stage representing Team Adam. Brown chose to sang, “Someone Like You,” by Adele but with a rock ‘n’ roll twist. Starting off the judges’ comments was Shelton, saying that he really enjoyed the performance because she made the song her own. Aguilera said that the vocal performance was very dynamic and powerful, but she is still waiting for that magic moment and to understand her as an artist. Green said that he was very pleased with the risk that Brown took. Levine added that he is very hard on people for performing an Adele track but he was proud that didn’t resemble that version and that she knocked it out of the park tonight.
Following Brown’s performance was Cody Belew, from Team Cee Lo. Belew took on the Queen classic, “Somebody to Love.” Levine started off the comments by saying that Belew did a great job even with a few minor flaws. Shelton said that he very impressed to see how far Belew has come as a performer since the blind auditions. Aguilera added that she enjoys the fact that Belew will take risks as a performer and come up with different things. Green said that the magic with Belew is that he makes every performance look effortlessly and that Belew has such a strong sense of self.
Performing, “Move Along,” by the All-American Rejects, Dez Duron, Terry McDermott, Cassadee Pope and Melanie Martinez took the stage for the first group performance of the night.
Terry McDermott from Team Blake took the stage next. McDermott chose to perform, “Over,” by his coach, Blake Shelton. The performance received a standing ovation from his coach. Aguilera said that McDermott is always a solid vocalists and that she was surprised by the performance. Green said that he is a big fan of McDermott’s voice and wants him to keep going. Levine said that he is a huge fan of McDermott and he is easily one of the best singers in this competition. Shelton said that McDermott performed the song they way he has always wanted it to be performed and that he really is a star.
Melanie Martinez took the stage next for Team Adam. Martinez took on, “Too Close,” by Alex Clare. Shelton said that her voice melts him and that she is always good. Aguilera said that was her favorite performance from Martinez so far in the competition. Green complimented Levine on the song arrangements and he thinks that Martinez will have great success. Levine said that he loves seeing an artist who is focused on every aspect of a performance and that Martinez does that and separates herself in this competition.
The last artist for Team Christina, Dez Duron, took the stage following Martinez. Duron took on; “You Smile,” by Justin Bieber. Green said that it is hard to believe that Duron would do anything other than singing, even though this wasn’t one of his best performances. Levine said that he really likes the style that Duron has fallen into and he is proud that Duron really followed his dream without looking back. Shelton said that Duron really has fallen into a good grove. Aguilera said that Duron really remade that song and that no one else in the competition can do what he does on stage.
Trevin Hunte from Team Cee Lo took the stage next performing the Whitney Houston classic, “Greatest Love of All.” Levine said that when he dies he hopes that is what heaven will be like and that Hunte can sing anything. Shelton said that this is the vocalist that his team has to figure out how to beat. Aguilera said that he did a beautiful job as usual. Green said that Hunte gave a wonderful performance and that he is certain Whitney would be proud.
Nicholas David representing Team Cee Lo performed “What’s Going On,” by Marvin Gaye. Levine started off the judges’ comments, saying that he loves the element that David brings to the show. Shelton added that he is proud that this show is how David is introduced to America. Green added that music can be a healing power and David brings that to this competition.
Closing the show was Cassadee Pope from Team Blake. Pope is performing the Michelle Branch hit, “Are You Happy Now?” Green said that she has a great voice and she knows it. Levine said that she did another great job this week following an amazing performance last week. Shelton after a quick birthday shout out to Pope’s Mom, he said that she really sang the crap out of that song.
The results show will be on NBC tomorrow.
