'The X Factor' Recap: 11/15 Top Ten Revealed

By Kaitlyn Vella,

The X Factor results this week were a bit of a shock with it being a double elimination. Instead of one act being sent home, two acts had to unfortunately leave the competition.

The show started off with a recap of the performances from the night before. Once again we were able to see the contestants’ reactions after their performances. The most heartfelt moment came after CeCe Frey went backstage after hearing the judges’ harsh comments. Tate Stevens came to her side to comfort her and told her he would be there for her if she ever needed to talk.

After the recap, all twelve contestants were brought to the stage. Immediately, hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian-Odom announced that group Lyric 145 drew in the lowest number of votes. The crowd began to boo, clearly not liking the decision. Lyric 145 took it well, though, and had a great attitude about it, even though they felt they weren’t able to show America everything they were capable of.

After the elimination, Taylor Swift took the stage. She sang “State of Grace” from her new album, Red. Her performance was a little different than her album version, but still just as good. The crowd loved it, cheering the whole way through.

When her performance ended, Lopez and Kardashian-Odom asked Swift what advice she would give to the contestants. Her response was to “be nice to people.”

Then it was time for more results. Immediately, the hosts began to name the contestants in no particular order to let them know they were safe. The names called were: Arin Ray (Teens), Vino Alan (Over 25s), Carly Rose Sonenclar (Teens), Diamond White (Teens), Tate Stevens (Over 25s), Emblem3 (Groups), Beatrice Miller (Teens) CeCe Frey (Young Adults) and Fifth Harmony (Groups).

Paige Thomas and Jennel Garcia didn’t have their names called, signaling that they were in the bottom and would have to sing for survival. Both girls were in the young adult group and mentored by Demi Lovato.

Garcia took the stage first, singing her own rendition of “The Reason” by Hoobastank. Her performance was raw, emotional and really showed off her vocals.

Thomas immediately followed with a performance of Coldplay’s “Paradise.” The passion she has definitely came through.

The judges then had to say who they wanted to go home. Although L.A. Reid said he didn’t think either girl should be going home, he decided to send Jennel Garcia home. Britney Spears agreed and also picked Garcia. Next, things got a little strange.

Lopez went to Simon Cowell for his decision, but Cowell refused to say who he wanted to leave before Lovato voiced her decision. After Lopez and Cowell went back and forth bickering, they decided to go to Lovato for her answer. She didn’t want to say anything, being the mentor of both girls, but finally chose Paige Thomas to send home. Unfortunately for Garcia, though, Cowell chose her and with three votes against one, she was sent home.

After the results, Jennel Garcia said that she was happy to have come so far and then thanked her mentor Lovato. It was an emotional night for the two of them and both began to cry.

Through her tears, Lovato told Garcia, “You have a future ahead of you, so I’m not worried. I love you and I really, really believe in you.”

When the show returned from a commercial break, Lopez and Kardashian-Odom took the stage with the top ten contestants to find out exactly how America voted. This week was a close one with only 3 percent of the votes separating the top four. Not only that, but there was less than one third of a one percent difference between the top two contestants. These were the results:

10. Paige Thomas
9. Arin Ray
8. Beatrice Miller
7. Diamond White
6. Fifth Harmony
5. CeCe Frey
4. Emblem3
3. Vino Alan
2. Carly Rose Sonenclar
1. Tate Stevens

The X Factor will return again next Wednesday at 8/7c on Fox for a “Thanksgiving spectacular” with performances from the top ten contestants!
