'The X-Factor' Recap 11/29: Top Six Revealed

By Kaitlyn Vella,

This week, The X Factor results were incredibly shocking. Within ten minutes of the show starting, young adult Paige Thomas was sent home. This left mentor Demi Lovato with only one act left in her group.

After Thomas’s elimination, Josh Krajcik took the stage to perform his single, “One Thing She’ll Never Know.” Krajcik made it to the top two last year on the show and his performance received a standing ovation from all four judges.

When The X Factor returned from a commercial break, hosts Khloe Kardashian-Odom and Mario Lopez let the viewers know of an exciting opportunity. Starting next week, the show will be having its fans participate in a Pepsi Challenge. Fans will get to choose a song for each of the contestants to sing next week as well as interact with them in regards to their hair, makeup and other features. For more information visit here.

Results followed the Pepsi Challenge announcement and Lopez and Kardashian-Odom began to name the acts that made it into the top six. In no particular order, the following acts were safe: Fifth Harmony, CeCe Frey, Emblem3, Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens. This left Diamond White from the teens and Vino Alan from the over 25s in the bottom two to sing for survival.

“I’m not surprised about Vino,” said judge Simon Cowell, who added that he didn’t enjoy his performance, “but I am surprised about Diamond.”

Kardashian-Odom interviewed Alan and White backstage and asked them how they were feeling.

“I’m going to give it all I got and keep the smile on my face,” said Diamond White.

“I’m going to go out there and pour my heart out,” said Vino Alan.

Before they were able to perform, though, Alicia Keys took the stage to perform her popular hit, “Girl On Fire.” Keys, who currently holds 14 Grammys, received a standing ovation from the judges.

Immediately following her performance, White hit the stage to perform Beyonce’s “I Was Here.” Alan quickly took the stage after her to sing “Trouble” by Ray Lamontagne.

When it was finally time to hear the judges' results, it was clear that all four were in a tough situation.

“I really sincerely love both of them,” said L.A. Reid, who was shocked that these were the two acts in the bottom two. In the end, though, he chose Diamond White to send home.

Britney Spears agreed at how tough of a decision this was, but being the mentor of White, she decided to send home Vino Alan.

“I don’t want to send either of you home,” said a distressed Lovato. Like Spears, though, she decided to send Alan home.

“I really, really do like both of these singers,” added Cowell before announcing his decision to send Alan home. With three votes against one, Vino Alan left the competition.

“I’m really proud of Vino,” said mentor L.A. Reid. “I’m really happy to call you family.”

After the results, the top six were brought back onstage to find out exactly how they ranked. This week's results were particularly close, with only 1 percent of the vote separating the top three and only 1/10th of 1 percent separating the top two. These were the results:

6. Diamond White
5. CeCe Frey
4. Fifth Harmony
3. Emblem3
2. Tate Stevens
1. Carly Rose Sonenclar

The top six will perform next Wednesday at 8/7c on Fox to fight for a spot in the semifinals.
