Alec Baldwin on Stephen Baldwin’s tax arrest: ‘I don’t think he’s going to jail’ (Video)

By Daniel S Levine,

Just hours after the media had reported that actor Stephen Baldwin could face jail time for failing to pay his taxes, his older brother, Alec Baldwin, spoke about the situation, noting that he’s confident that Stephen won’t go to jail.

In an interview on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Baldwin said that the media had taken it a little out of proportion, since Stephen had everything arranged with the DA prior to Thursday’s arrest.

“I don't think he's going to jail,” Baldwin told Morgan. “I know that he's in a negotiated settlement...Things that were online, which were...that's what media today does, they try to tilt it the way that they need it to be to sell copies and what have you, and sell online hits to their sites.”

The 30 Rock star explained that the arrest and the mugshot were all part of the procedure officials had to go through. “...They've got to shake him down, and they've got to make him walk that gauntlet because that's their procedure, even though steps have been made to begin the process of remediating that money, and down payments have been made,” he said.

Baldwin explains that he knows other people with similar money problems. “I have so many friends of mine who annualize their income, they make a lot of money one year, two years, three years, then they just assume it's going to carry on for many, many years, and those people end up spending the money that they ordinarily would have to segregate into a tax account,” he explained. “And my brother in that sense is no different than millions of other people.”

He is confident that his brother will get the problem sorted out soon. “His problem as of today is being cleared up...but they did drag him through that mud today,” he said,

E! News reports that Baldwin also slammed the paparazzi, which isn’t surprising considering his recent rant against the New York Post.

“My attitude is that the business would be infinitely better if all of them were gone,” Baldwin added. “If I could push a button tomorrow and flush them all down some swirling sewer vortex , I would do it. Where's the button? Hand it to me now.”
