Anchorman fans need to get ready for a pants part invitation, because Paramount announced that the film’s sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 20, 2013.
Although it’s been nine years since the original film was released, the cast is just as enthusiastic as its fans for the sequel.
"I've never seen anyone delight in playing a character than Will acting like Ron Burgundy all day. He's just so happy doing it it's infectious,” said producer Judd Apatow, according to MTV.
Will Ferrell, who plays the title character, wrote the script with Adam McKay. Thankfully, the film sounds like it’ll receive just as many laughs as the first.
“We read it a few weeks ago and people were laughing so hard that at about 40 minutes in we all just ran out of gas,” Apatow said. “It was hard to read the whole thing because we got tired [from laughing].”
The sequel shows the crew at Action News struggle with the changing dynamics of the newsroom. Set in the 1980s, the 24-hour news station is taking over the industry, and the crew needs to adjust or it will be replaced.
“All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors,” explained director Adam McKay, according to Screen Rant. “And any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”
