Anne Hathaway is already an incredibly thin woman, so fans were astounded when the actress announced that she would drop an additional 25 pounds for her role in Les Miserables.
Hathaway defends her weight loss, insisting it was a creation of her own and not from the pressure of director Tom Hooper, Us Weekly reports.
In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Hooper admits,
"To be honest, I thought she was going further than she should, and I tried to discourage her."
Hathaway adds, “Tom didn't like what I was doing, but he understood why I was doing it.…No one liked what I was doing. By the end, people were hugging me, and they would get emotional because I felt so frail."
Indeed, Hathaway looks incredibly frail as she dropped the weight to look that of her character, a disease ridden prostitute.
Since its Christmas debut, Les Miserables has received rave reviews as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Picture. Hathaway also received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
