Anne Hathaway is still hopeful that she will get to play Selina Kyle once again in a future film. The Les Miserables actress said in a recent interview that she would love to play her Dark Knight Rises character in her own Catwoman movie.
Hathaway spoke with Access Hollywood this week while promoting Les Miserables, which opens on Christmas Day, and said that no one has approached her about a Catwoman spinoff.
“I would love it. I actually, it’s so embarrassing, I was at a press Q & A thing the other night for a screening of The Dark Knight, and the moderator asked me, ‘So what was it like to say goodbye to the character?’ And I burst into tears, because I miss her,” she said. “It just makes me cry. I miss her. I love Selena so much and I love her presence in my life and getting to… I’m crying again.”
She continued, “So assuming there was enough Kleenex in the world, I would love to do a spin-off.”
According to The Huffington Post, Hathaway also talked about wanting to do a Catwoman spin-off over the summer, but noted that director Christopher Nolan has to be behind the cameras.
“If he's interested, I'm very interested,” she told Digital Spy in July. “I think it would be lovely to see more of her, but only if it's with the right people. She lives in this Gotham City, and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.”
Nolan has consistently stated that he has no intentions of returning to his vision of Gotham City outside of his Dark Knight trilogy, so chances are slim that Hathaway will get to play Catwoman again for him.
