Barbara Walters’ 2012 list of the year’s Most Interesting People already has One Direction, Ben Affleck and 50 Shades of Grey author EL James. Joining them on the list is Alana Thompson, better known to TV viewers as Honey Boo Boo Child.
The View co-host explained to Us Weekly why the 7-year-old beauty queen deserves a spot on the list.
“It's a love story,” she said about Boo Boo’s relationship with her mother, June. “It's a very sweet, loving story.”
Boo Boo is a decisive figure and Walters understands that some people will not like seeing her on the list. “A lot of people will say, 'For heaven's sake, this is ridiculous, this is a child at 5 or 6 years old entering beauty contests,’” she said. “But the relationship between Alana and her mother -- that's the story, the two of them. It's very touching.”
No matter what Walters says, it likely isn’t going to convince Maroon 5’s Adam Levine that Boo Boo is interesting. He recently called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo the “decay of Western civilization.”
Walters’ 2012 list features a variety of the year’s biggest newsmakers, from politicians like Chris Christie and Hillary Clinton to Olympian Gabby Douglas.
Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012 will air on ABC on Dec. 12. More names will be revealed during the special.
