It looks like the revolving door at Simon Cowell’s The X Factor judge’s table will continue spinning. With L.A. Reid already walking out, Britney Spears is reportedly following him out the door.
According to Us Weekly’s insider, Spears is not coming back and not because she doesn’t want to. The source says that producers were unimpressed with her performance, which came after they paid her $15 million to join the show for one season.
“Britney will get the boot,” the source said. “Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn't working.”
The source adds that they don’t think they got the bang for the buck. “They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps.”
Last month, Spears sounded confident that she will be back for the show’s third season. “Yes, I definitely will,” she said.
Spears has also talked about how much fun she had on the show and how she loved giving advice to aspiring singers. “It's different from anything I've ever done before, but it's a lot of fun. We get to sit back and get to be entertained and it's just wonderful. It's really cool,” she said.
Reid confirmed that he will not be back for season three, since he wants to get back to working full time at Epic Records.
Spears joined The X Factor with Demi Lovato, whose future has not been confirmed. The two replaced Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who left after season one. Fox has already renewed the show for a third season.
