Celebrities tweet their sorrow and prayers for Connecticut school shooting

Thursday morning’s devastating Elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut has left sadness in the heart of many. Since the news broke, celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their sadness and sending prayers to the families affected.

The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary left 27 people dead, including 18 children.

Hillary Duff tweets:

Maria Shriver took the time to send out a handful of tweets, including, “Just yesterday, I wrote about the joy of becoming a mother. Right now so many mothers and fathers are in indescribable pain.”

As well as, “My heart is breaking as this story unfolds. Let's start a #circleofprayer for the children and their families.”

E! News journalist Giuliana Rancic writes, “This tragedy is beyond heartbreaking. Imagine how excited these little kids were for the holidays. Why? Why? Why? Tragic and senseless.”

“What a sad sad day in America... God bless all the victims and their families in CT,” Giulian’s husband Bill tweeted.

Reality starlet Kim Kardashian has also sent several tweets, including, “These kids come to school to learn, never expecting this tragedy to happen. They didn't deserve this. Praying for everyone involved!”

According to CNN, the shooter, identified as Ryan Lanza, fired off 100 rounds. The report states that the death toll could reach as high as 30.

President Obama is set to make a statement in the next 15 minutes regarding the tragic event. Speaker John Boehner tweets, “Have ordered flags over the @uscapitol to be lowered in tribute to families & victims at #SandyHook. #prayfornewtown.”
