A petition was been created by 13-year-old McKenna Pope last month to try and get Hasbro to create a gender-neutral Easy-Bake Oven.
The inspiration behind the petition was Pope’s brother, Gavyn, who loves cooking. However, she noticed that the commercials only contain girls and overall, the ovens are girl colors like pink and purple.
She explains, “I want my brother to know that it’s not ‘wrong’ for him to want to be a chef, that it’s okay to go against what society believes to be appropriate. Please, sign this petition, help me in creating gender equality, and help the children of today become what they’re destined to be tomorrow.”
She also psoted this video of Gavyn:
Now, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the petition, which now has over 41,000 signatures, has garnered the attention of Bobby Flay and Top Chef alum Manuel Trevin.
Pope is reportedly going to meet with executives from Hasbro about the Easy-Bake Oven next week.
